Tribute to Fiona Zyffillous

Thank you so much for being the only one to regularly comment, Alex! I love and miss you, and cannot wait for the winter when you come stay here with me!!!!!!

Being sick sucks

Yea, I know, its way too early in the semester to be sick already, but I am. Ugh...I almost forget what it feels like to be able to breathe through my nose (attractive, eh? ;-)). I think it is just my body's reaction to me never sleeping because of early classes + working late + hw + my attempt at a semblence of a social life. So yea, hopefully my body will just get used to it and get better. asap.

Anywho, work has been crazy. I have been increasing my number of tables and business, which has gone alright. I get easily frazzled when I mess something up. But you know what? Some people can be really mean! Especially some old people. I'm sorry your life is almost over, but don't hate on me because mine is just beginning! And sometimes its not my fault, but to them it is. Then again, I have had some REALLY nice people as well. So I guess I can't complain too much. Plus, walking out of work with cash in your pockets is nice. And I talked to Miss Cleo (my manager--I love it!), and she agreed that I could drop back to two shifts a week. I barely had to ask when she agreed and said, "Your education is more important than Friendly's." So thats good. Cuz I am fuckin exhausted. Thankfully I don't work again until Saturday.

As I write this, I am in the Daily Grind, eating a chocolate scone and drinking a frozen chocolate chai. Mmmm. I feel better solely because of this meal. And I am going to lunch w/ Anne after Accounting, so that will be fun. And tonight is our weekly Jeopardy/pizza party, which I cannot wait for. Getting to relax after 3 straight nights of work is going to be amazing. If only I can kick this cold...

Over and out,
Dan

(I have become obsessed with this song again since I heard it recently in Anne's car, and realized how dirty it is. I had no idea as a kid!)

How long can I do this?

So maybe I should have waited before picking up a job... I am now working a couple shifts a week, along with taking 5 classes (1 more than I took each semester last year) and attempting to have some semblance of a social life. I remember someone telling me once that "there are three things that make up college: partying, studying and sleeping. Unfortunately you can only be successful at two of them, so choose wisely." Having completed my freshman year, I wouldn't say that it is completely true, but I see the point. Lately, I have been sacrificing sleep more than I should have been, and have paid for it. I'm just plain exhausted. Thankfully, its the weekend, and I plan on paying off my sleep debt in full! I don't work again until Sunday, so I think I can handle that. I just can't let myself start off the week tired, because that is the worst thing to do when there is no chance to make up for it. But I can make it through this semester. I can do it. I will just have to make sure next semester is better.

Work has been going really well. I have advanced in my training, and now have my own section to take care of by myself. Granted there are only 4 or 5 tables in the section, but still! Progress! I even make tips! I am actually enjoying myself. It can be quite stressful, and exhausting, but its good money and everyone has been really nice. Come visit!

My classes seem pretty good. Spanish is crazy cuz I have it every day, but that should make the learning process easier. I see myself improving, but I have a long way to go before I can speak or listen proficiently. Accounting isn't as boring as I would have assumed it would be. I actually enjoy it and can grasp it. So that helps me feel more confident in my plan to major in business at the Business School. Beginning Acting seems promising. All we have been doing has been working on stretching and breathing, but I am excited to start acting. American History promises to be alot of work, but the material is relatively interesting, so it shouldn't be too bad. Plus the teacher is really nice. And finally, Macroeconomics. By far my most boring class. But it shouldn't be too difficult, as people say it was easier than Micro, which I found to be very easy. My professor seems nice enough, but he says "m'kay" and "uh" alot. And I mean ALOT. It gets on your nerves....

So thats life now. I just got back from dinner w/ Kendall at Olive Garden. Delicious. And we caught up, which was nice. Tonight, I think the plan is to pregame at the house, then go to a Delta Phi dance party? We shall see. All I can say is, after this week...

I'M GETTIN' DRUNK.

Over and out,
Dan

Procrastinate now; don't put it off!

**I promise that this will not be too long of a post, because I have lots of work to do for class tomorrow**

So, let me start by explaining my utter absence from the Blog world for the past week and a half. I moved into my apartment here in Williamsburg, which has not had internet (or cable, for that matter) until yesterday. Let me tell you, living without internet is not easy! I think this means I have an internet addiction. Eh, whatever; I can live with that.

Last week I got a job at Friendly's. My parents insisted I start working immediately, so that I start paying income tax to VA. This will help when I attempt to apply for in-state tuition, which would save my family a helluva lot of money. It has been an adjustment to be working and going to school, and I can't say that I prefer it, but you do what you must. The people have been really nice, and I am starting to get the hang of this whole waiting tables thing. We'll see how it all works out.

Then, classes started Wednesday. I had to make a change to my schedule after classes started, so my revised schedule is this:

Monday & Wednesday:
9:00-9:50 Spanish 101
11:00-12:20 Accounting
2:00-4:20 Beginning Acting

Tuesday & Thursday:
8:30-9:20 Spanish Drill
9:30-10:50 American History (Part 1)
11:00-12:20 Macroeconomics

Friday:
9:00-9:50 Spanish 101

Its quite an early schedule, but I get out early Tues and Thurs, and have one class on Fri, so I can't really complain. Class has been going well, but I have only had a few days of them. Friday, classes were cancelled due to Hurrican Ernesto, which knocked power out to the whole campus, flooded many buildings, and made it all around dangerous to be outside. People ended coming over to the house, which managed to keep electricity the whole time. All in all it was a fun day.

Well, I have that pesky reading to get to, so I will leave you all now. I hope everyone is enjoying school!
